Costa voted the UK’s favourite coffee shop – again

Costa Coffee has once again taken the title of ‘Nation’s Favourite Coffee Shop’ in Allegra’s annual poll.

Costa – the largest and fastest growing coffee shop chain in the UK – has claimed the top coffee shop spot for the tenth year running.

It is worth noting though, that the accolade is based on the results of a panel of just 4,086 consumers – a small number when you consider the 95 million cups of coffee the UK is estimated to consume per day!

However of those who answered as to what their favourite high-street coffee shop was, a strong 47% opted for Costa as their cafe of choice.

Commenting on the achievement, Costa Coffee Managing Director, UK&I, Neil Lake, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive the accolade of the nation’s favourite coffee shop for the tenth consecutive year. This is a fantastic achievement and means a lot, especially as it’s voted for by consumers.

“We’re also celebrating two other key milestones; ten years of our much-loved loyalty programme, Coffee Club, and ten years since we introduced the iconic Flat White to our menu – the first UK High Street coffee shop chain to do so nationwide!

“It’s been a phenomenal decade of growth and innovation for Costa. We’ve strived to create new and exciting ways for Costa Coffee fans to enjoy our coffee wherever they are; Costa Coffee Ready to Drink, Costa At Home, and of course, Costa Express – a barista-style machine crafting coffee to enjoy on the go.

Previously the award also saw Costa Coffee named by consumers as the UK’s most ethical coffee shop in the same poll, but there is no mention of this in the 2020 announcement although the company’s website still suggests they are on track to be become the first coffee chain in the UK to recycle as many takeaway cups as we sell by 2020.
